Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to understand the form of a formal letter which expresses gratitude and write a formal letter to acknowledge the donor’s contribution.
Material: Textbook, blackboard, chalk, projector, computer (used during the lesson), handouts (used for particular tasks) and draft paper.

- Divide the class into two groups and then introduce the game.
- Give the correct answer and declare the winner.
- Listen to the teacher’s instruction carefully and then work in groups trying to guess the missing word based on suggested information.
- Stop the teacher and give answer if they find the answer.
- Clap their hands to congratulate the winners.

- Give students a real situation and make question to elicit new lesson. 
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, discuss and rearrange the main parts of a letter in right order.
- Give feedback.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, read the letter in task 1 carefully and then underline the sentences that express the main points of the letter.

- Ask students to read the letter again and give comments.
- Get some students to talk about the letter.

Task 2: Work in groups and do the task
Situation: You have received a donation of one million dong from one of the local organizations to build your school library. Write a letter to acknowledge the receipt of the donation and express your gratitude.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to express our (faithful) thanks for the donation from your organization and hope to get more assistance and cooperation from your organization in the future.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

- Get students to work in groups of 4 or 5 and write the letter on the provided boards or on Ao paper. 
- Go around to observe and offer help.
- Work in groups and try to finish the letter in 10 minutes.
- Ask for help if necessary

IV. Post – writing:
 Sharing and comparing
- Collect two or three students’ writings and hang them on the blackboard.
- Ask students to read the writings on the blackboard and give comments on the letter form, vocabulary, or grammar, ect.
- Read the writings and give comments on them.
- Observe and try to find the right answer for the mistakes.

V. Homework:
 1. Write a letter to thank the donor for a donation of $ 400 to buy wheelchairs for handicapped students in your school.
 2. Prepare for the next lesson. 
- Ask students to do these at home
