UNIT 14: THE WORLD CUP
Lesson A: READING
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge:
 - Vocabulary:
 - Structure: to know more about the past simple tense and passive voice.
2. Skills: develop such reading micro-skills as scanning for specific information, intensive reading for details, and guessing meaning in context.
3. Attitude: Ss would like to talk about the World Cup.
II. Preparations: 
1. Teacher: book, piece of papers
2. Students: Pictures.
III. Anticipated problems: Students may not have sufficient vocabulary to talk about the topic, so T should be ready to assist them.
IV. Procedure:

I. Warm-up (5’)
- This is one of the most popular sports in the world?
II. Pre-reading
1. Answer the questions in page 142 (3’)
- T goes around and helps.
- T calls some Ss answer
- T checks and gives feedback.
- T gives the key.
2. Teach vocabulary (4’): 
- T pre-teaches vocabulary.
- T calls on some Ss to read again.
- T listens and corrects Ss’ pronunciation mistakes.
- T gives feedback.
- T introduces another part.
II. While-reading (20’):
*Task 1:
- T instructs Ss to read the passage quickly and stop at the lines that contain these words to guess their meanings
- T asks Ss to check their answers with a partner and then calls some Ss to give answers and explain that. 
*Task 2:
- T asks Ss to do the task individually and then in pairs.
- T goes around and helps.
- T corrects Ss’ answers.
*Task 3:
- T asks Ss to repeat the process they've gone through when doing Task 2, i.e. they skim the questions.
- T calls some Ss to give and explain their answers.
- T gives correct feedback.
III. Post-reading (10’):
- Lucky football team
 There are 6 questions
- T asks Ss to go back to the text and find out the events related to these figures. 
- T gets Ss to work in small groups of 3 or 4 and take turn to talk about the history of the World Cup, basing themselves on their notes.
2. Summary: 
- T summarizes the main points.
3. Homework:
- T asks Ss to learn all the new words 
- T asked Ss write a short paragraph about the history of the WC basing on the completed table above.
- Ss answer the questions.
- Ss read the passage and the column
- Ss guess the meanings of the words based on the contexts 
- Ss scan the text and complete each of the following sentences with a word or a number 
- Ss scan the text to decide whether the given statements are true or false

Lesson B : SPEAKING
I. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
1. Knowledge: 
* Vocabulary : Use some football vocabulary to ask and answer about the World Cup and talk about the World Cup winners. 
* Language : Use structures, vocabulary to do the tasks required like :
- Ask and answer questions about World Cup.
- Talk about the World Cup.
2. Skills: Develop the speaking skills and some sub-skills ( reading, writing, listening ) ; present the ideas in front of the class.
3. Attitude: - Ss would like to talk about the World Cup winner.
 - Ss get more information about the World Cup and some sports.
II. Preparations: 
1. Teacher: text book, some pictures.
2. Students: text book, pencil, notebook.
III. Anticipated problems and solutions:
1. Ss may not know the meaning of some words in the passage, so T should be ready to assist them and try to explain to help Ss to imagine.
2. Ss may not know how to ask about the World Cup, so T should help them.

- T divides the class into 2 groups.
- T introduces the game: noughts and crosses.
- T leads into the new lesson.
II. Pre-speaking:
1. Task 1 (10’): 
- T gives some pictures and questions about four football teams ( England, France, Italy, and Germany )
Questions:
1. Which is your favorite football team?
2. Which team became the champion in the World Cup 2014?
3. How many times has England become the champion up to the World Cup 2002?
4. Who was the captain of England national football team in the World Cup 2002?
5. Who is the most famous player in England national football team? 
- T checks the answers with the whole class.
- T corrects and gives the answer .
III. While-speaking:

- Before start, T asks Ss look at the table in the next page (146)
- T gives some suggest question:

- T goes around checking and offering help.

- T gives feedback and correct answers.

- T asks Ss to practice speaking at home and learn new words by heart.
