1. Cách phát âm đuôi ‘ed’”
 ‘ed’ được phát âm là : /id/ khi đứng sau : t hoặc d .Ví dụ : visited, wanted,planted,needed,united,polluted
 ‘ed’ được phát âm là : /t/ khi đứng sau : p, k , s , sh, ch ,gh .Ví dụ : stopped, looked, missed, washed, watched, laughed..
 ‘ed’ được phát âm là : /d/ ngoài 2 trường hợp trên : Ví dụ : learned, lived, played, happened, carried..
2. Cách phát âm phụ âm CH :
 CH được phát âm là : /k/ : school , character, chemistry, christmas, chaos/keios/(sự hỗn loạn), scholar ( học giả) , scheme (kế hoạch) , orchestra, christ, stomach, monarchy ( nước quân chủ lập hiến ), architect, chorus, choral, .
 CH được phát âm là : / / : machine, champage, chemise / áo sơ mi / schedule(Thời gian biểu) 
 CH được phát âm là : / / trong các trường hợp còn lại : chore (việc nhà), cheap, child, children, chicken, church, catch, charity, charm, cheerful.
3. Cách phát âm phụ âm TH : 
 TH được phát âm là : / / : this, that, these, those, than, though, eventhough, then, the, father, brother, weather, 
 TH được phát âm là : / / : think, thought, thank, three, breathe, sixth, seventh, depth, width, month, truth, thing, theater , bath, healthy..
4. Cách phát âm phụ âm S : 
 S được phát âm là : / s / khi sau : / p, t, k, f, gh / Ví dụ : stops, wants, looks, laughs, 
 S được phát âm là : / iz / khi có đuôi /es/ sau: /s , ch, sh, x, z / Ví dụ : misses, watches, washes, boxes, ..
 S được phát âm là : / z / trong các trường hợp còn lại : Ví dụ : learns, plays, goes, swims, lives, sings, pens,..
5. Một số phụ âm câm :

LESSON 3: STRESS 
A- Theory:
1.Từ có một âm tiết không có trọng âm.
2.Từ có 2 âm tiết :
 Đa số trọng âm tiết ở âm thứ nhất (Đặc biệt khi âm tiết cuối có tận cùng là :-er, -or, -ar, -ow, -on, -en, -ent, -ance, -y.)
 Eg. Father, mother, flower, lion, children, parents, absent, mountain, valley.
 Nhưng nếu ĐỘNG TỪ tận cùng là –ENT, -ER thì trọng âm thường rơi vào âm tiết thứ 2. (eg. (to) enter, (to) suffer (chịu đựng), (to) present, (to) prefer, (to) refer(tham khảo), (to) consent (thỏa thuận), (to) frequent (năng lui tới).
 Ngoại lệ: Một số từ có 2 âm tiết , nhưng trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ 2 :
 Police, technique, machine, July, idea, ideal (lý tưởng), 
3.Từ có 3, 4, âm tiết : Đa số trọng âm ở âm tiết số 1:
 Eg. Chemistry, architect, elephant, animal, liberty, mineral,.
 Ngoại lệ: September, October, November, December, pagoda, examine, imagine
4.Trọng âm TRƯỚC những vần sau : 
 ance, ence, ant, ent, ian, ic, ous, ive, cial, tial, ity, tion,sion, cion, ury..
Eg. Nation, prevention, anxious, precious, expensive, special, injury, famous, unity, compendious( súc tích), librarian, politician, attendance
 5. Danh từ chỉ các môn học : 
 Trọng âm cách âm tiết cuối 1 âm tiết: (Trừ 2 âm sau)
 Eg. Geography, biology, literature,.
6. Đa số động từ có 2 âm tiết thì trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ 2, vì âm tiết trước có đặc tính tiếp đầu ngữ:
 NHỮNG TIẾP ĐẦU NGỮ THÔNG THƯỜNG LÀ:
 Ab, ad, ac, af, al, an, ap, ar, at, as, ..(eg, accept, affect, address, apply, arrange, arrive, attach..
 Bi.(eg: bisect (cắt đôi) )
 Com, co, col, con..(eg: combine, complete, compare,co-operature,collect,conclude)
 De, dis(eg: depent, defend (protect), dispose (định đoạt), dislike..
 Ex, en,im, in, into, mis, ob, oc,of,op, per, pro,sub, suc, sug, un, out, sur, re,..
 (eg: exciting, exclaim, exclude, enlarge, immix, important, imply(hàm ý), impossible, into, invent, mistake, impression, observe(quan sát), occur, offend(làm phật ý), oppose (chống đối), perform, propose (intend), protect, submit(đầu hàng), succeed, suggest, unlock, unman (làm mất can đảm), outdo, outgrow, surprise, resist..
7. Những vần có trọng âm cố định: 
 ade, ee, eer, ese, self, cur, dict, ect, fer, mit, sist, tain, tract, vent,
Eg: engineer, Chinese, myself, occur, predict, collect, effect, correct, prefer, confer, prevent, attract, detest(hate)..
8. Trọng âm với DANH TỪ GHÉP : Thường rơi vào âm tiết đầu (Trừ: DT ghép với từ chỉ vật liệu chế tạo ra vật đó thì trọng âm ở DT sau ).
Eg. paper bag, nylon shirt, brick house.
9.Trọng âm với ĐỘNG TỪ GHÉP : 
a) Có 2 từ: Trọng âm ở từ thứ 2 (throw away, cool off, warm up, see off, take off.
b). Ghép bởi trạng từ + ĐT : Trọng âm ở ĐT gốc. 
 eg. Outdo, overdo, overweight, underline, understand,
 Ngoại lệ: backbite (nói xấu)
