 UNIT 4: MUSIC AND ARTS 
 Period 32: Lesson 6: SKILLS 2
 I. Objectives:
	By the end of this lesson, students will be able to : 
 - Listen to get information about an artist.
 - Write an informal letter of invitation .
 II. Contents:
	1. Vocabulary: Revise some words related to the topic “Music and Arts”.
	2. Skills : Improve the two skills : Listening and wrting.
 III. Method: Communicative approach
 IV. Teaching aids: Powerpoint teaching plan , multiple – function projector , textbook, pictures, chalks, black board, CD player, study sheets, .
 V. Procedures:
Teacher’s activities.
* Warm-up: (5minutes) 
 Look at the pictures !
 Ask Ss some questions :
Who was he ?
What did he do/ What was he famous for ?
Where and when was he born?
 Introduce the new lesson . 
* New lesson:
I. Listening (18minutes)
1. Pre –Listening 
When you listen, What should you do?
- Explain Listening tip to Ss
2. While - Listening 
*Activity 1: Listen and circle the words you hear.
- Ask Ss to close their books. Tell Ss they should listen and note down the keywords in their notebooks. Play the listening once. Ask Ss what they learned about Picasso( encourage Ss to refer to their notes).
- Ask Ss to open their books, play the recording again and ask Ss to listen carefully and circle the words they hear in the passage.

- Look at the words you’ve circled. Do you know what all of these words mean?
- Check Ss’ comprehension of the chosen words. 
 Activity 2. Listen to the passage again and choose the correct answers .
- Play the recording again.
- Ask Ss to give listen to choose A, B, C for their answers.
- Check the Ss’ answers and give expaination if necessary.

 Activity 3. Listen to the passage one more time. As a class, discuss how the listening is organised ( According to a timeline, the order of important events, or another way).
Let Ss work in groups.

3. Post – Listening 
- Let Ss work in groups and retell about Picasso’s life and his career in 4 or 5 sentences.
II. Wring (20minutes)
1.Pre – writing 
- Ask Ss some questions:
Have you ever written a letter to a friend ?
How do you write? What’s its format ?
- Ask Ss why they would write an informal letter of invitation and what for ?
- Focus Ss’ attention on the Writing tip.
- Ask Ss to reoder the jumbled letter into an informal letter of invitation .
- Show the completed letter .
Activity 4. Read the following letter and choose the correct answers.
- Have ss read the sample letter carefully, and note down the useful expressions(cues) for writing an informal letter of invitation.Tell Ss to choose the correct answers. 
- Call Ss to give their answers.

- Ask Ss to read the cues carefully, then practice writing the letter in group .
- Tell Ss to pay special attetion to spelling and punctuation .
- Collect the writing and mark them, give the comments to the class. 
3.Post – Writing
III. Consolidation (1minute)
- Ask Ss to consolidate the main contents of the lesson.
1. Vocabulary : Revise some words related to the topic “Music and Arts”.
2. Skills : Improve the two skills : Listening and wrting.
IV . Homework (1minute)
Write an informal letter of invitation in your notebooks.
Do the exercises in workbooks.
Prepare the new lesson .
