PROCEDURE I/ Warmer:(5')( Choose one of the 2 ways) 1.Jumbled words: NERNIW winner PU NERNUR runner- up CHONPIAM champion TRYNOUC TOSH host country 2.Matching: Match the national football teams with their flags. II/ Pre-speaking: 1.Vocabulary:(7') - draw(n): trận đấu hòa. (Explanation: a match with a score of 1-1 is called a draw). (v): to make the competition become a draw. - penalty shoot-out: cú phạt đền. - quarter final (n): vòng tứ kết. - semi final(n): vòng bán kết. 2.Checking: What and where. III/ While-speaking: 1.A World Cup 2006 quiz(Task 1/p145)(7') - Have ss name the team in the photos.( P1:the English team; P2: the French team; P3: the Italian team; P4: theGerman team) - T gives some questions about the four football teams and writes each questions on a different card. - T divides the class into small groups of 3 or 4 and introduces the quiz. - Have ss take turn to answer the quiz. * Possible questions: How many times has Italy won the trophy up to World Cup 2006? Who was the captain of the French national football team in World Cup 2006? What was the score of the World Cup 2006 final? What nationality was the top scorer in World Cup 2006? Who was the captain of the English national football team in World Cup 2006? Who beat England in the World Cup 2006 quarter final? Answer: 4 times Zinedine Zidane 5-3 in favor of Italy(that was a penalty shootout after extra time finished in a 1-1 draw) German (Miroslav Klose is German and he score 5 goals in World Cup 2006, becoming the top scorer of the tournament) David Beckham Portugal (by 3-1) 2. IV/ Post-speaking:(10') Talking about W.C winners in different years.(group work) -Have ss read the model in the textbook. -Ss work in their former groups and take turn to talk about the W.C winner in a certain year. -T goes around checking and offering help. -T calls on some ss to talk about different W.C winners. -T corrects ss’ errors and gives feedback.
