 UNIT: 7	Lesson: Language Focus 	 
Aims: -To help Ss practise pronunciation of / / , / / and / /	
	- To review the use of Present Perfect and using “because of” and “in spite of” appropriately.
Skills: pronunciation, writing and speaking	
Teaching aids: 	flipcharts, pictures and handouts.
Teaching procedure:
*Wamer:	Categorising
- Give out 8 words.
- Ask Ss to decide which words go with since or for
	*Suggested words: 1990, two months, a week, 10 years, a long time, Monday, March, the morning
A. Pronunciation:
- Demonstrate the sounds /ei / , /ai / and / i/ by pronouncing them clearly and slowly.
-Help Ss to distingish these two sounds.
-Instruct the way to pronounce:
	/ei / has two sounds : e and I
 	First make the sound e . Now make it longer eee. 
	Then add I. This is very short 
	eeei.
	/ai / has two sounds : a and I
 	First practice the sound a .
	This is a long sound and then add i. This is very short.
	aaai
	/ i / has two sounds : and I
 	First practice the sound . Now make it longer . 
	Then add I. This is very short 
*Practice: (page 79)
- Play the tape and ask Ss to repeat.
- Call on some Ss to repeat the sounds clearly in front of the class.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs and practice the sentences. 	 
T leads Ss to the lesson.
B. GRAMMAR:
1. The Present Perfect tense:
*Presentation:
ex: I’ve been here for an hour.
Form:	S + have/has + p.p
Use: 	-To talk about something which started in the past and continues up to the present.
	- To express an action which happened with indefinite time.
Notes: 	since : chi moc thoi gian xac dinh
	for : chi khoang thoi gian khong xac dinh
*Practice:
1. Complete the letter, using the present perfect of the verbs in the box (exercise1, page 80)
*Keys:

2. Complete the following sentences, using for, since or ago. (exercise2, page 80)
*Keys:

2. “Because of” and “in spite of” 
*Presentation:
ex: 1. Because of the cold weather, we kept the fire burning all day.
	Noun phare ( show the cause)
 2. In spite of the cold weather, we all wore shorts. 
	 Noun phare ( show the concession)
