The famous little golden Oscar statues weigh 3.88 kilograms and are only 31.3 centimeters tall but all film stars dream of winning one for their hard work. Oscar, the golden statue handed out to the winners, looks like a knight standing on reel of film and holding a sword in his hands.
But how did the little get the name “Oscar”? A popular story says that an American librarian thought the statue looked just like his uncle, whose name was Oscar. The Academy began to call the statues “Oscar” in 1939.
