Trong 8 từ loại của Tiếng Anh, chỉ cú danh từ (noun), động từ (verb), tớnh từ (adjective) và trạng từ (adverb) mới cú khả năng biến đổi lẫn nhau.
Danh từ (noun) thường ở cỏc vị trớ như: chủ từ (subject), bổ ngữ (complement) và sau cỏc giới từ.
Tớnh từ (adjective) thường đứng trước danh từ, hoặc sau linking verbs như be, seem, feel, taste, smell, look (trụng cú vẻ), sound (nghe cú vẻ), become,
Trạng từ tần suất (always, usually) đi sau be nhưng trước động từ thường.
Trạng từ chỉ thể cỏch (slowly, hard, fast, quickly) đi sau động từ, cụm động từ.
Trạng từ chỉ mức độ (extremely, very, quite,) đi trước tớnh từ và trạng từ khỏc.
